WikiWiki

This week in class we learned and got hands on experience with using wikipedia to collaborate. This website is always my first stop when doing a basic search when I have any curiosity about literally any topic. Whether it comes to doing background for a research paper, settling a debate between friends, or shear curiosity. It is such an easy accessible site that gives quick important facts and information. Even more relatable to this course, it is 100% based off of online collaboration. Users can upload and edit the information. In class, our groups were even given the opportunity to edit a “stub” or an incomplete page. The information is closely monitored to ensure the credibility of the website and the information on each page. Although in grade school and even high school, it was drilled into me by my teachers that wikipedia is not a credible source due to its collaborative nature. But, after some research and what I've learned in esoc 211, everything added it is so closely monitored, it is such a vast encyclopedia of knowledge and I think that it is incredibly credible, as long as users keep editing and adding information.
